Jennifer and Nathan, or as most friends know them as, Jenn + Nate, have been together for years. Jenn and Nate met each other through a mutual friend while Nate worked at a jewelry store. Being the expert in the four c’s of diamonds: cut, color, clarity, and carat, both finished school, now work in their current professions, and spend their time together wine and dining, and spending time with their little yorkie, Brownie.
One of the many things that connected Jenn and I, is the fact we both followed Scott Robert Lim (my photography mentor, and now Jenn + Nate’s wedding photographer!) back in the Xanga days. We had countless conversations about Scott, what about his work we love, and how we admire his style. As I was taking (and continue to take) workshops from Scott, Jenn would follow his work on his blog, where he’s traveling to next, and what’s happening in his life, because she was hoping that one day, someday – Jenn would have him photograph her wedding. We had countless conversations of what’s happening, and what’s coming up next in all of our lives. Because of this relationship, and Jenn hoping and wishing she’d have her dream wedding photographer, I shared with Scott that she and Nate are waiting for their big day to come, (no pressure intended)!
Still on the topic of getting married, within the group of friends, it’s always a question of “who’s next” to get proposed to and take on the next steps in life. Over six months ago, we went to Hawaii for another mutual friends’ wedding, and we’re all sure it was pressuring on Nate, Mr. Expert on Jewelry, to seal the deal. In addition, I’m sure like most couples, they would have “the talk” about their future, marriage, and Jenn would just wait and dream for the day when it would happen. Jenn would even tell Nate, “See, we need to get married soon, because Scott Robert Lim might stop shooting weddings soon!!”
It was not until a month or two after, Nate pulled the question and surprised everyone, even Jenn herself. With a beautiful diamond that sparkles (I honestly couldn’t stop staring at it during their engagement session!), a beautiful fiancee, and one big happy family with Brownie, this gorgeous couple will be getting married soon in California’s wine country, Napa!
As they continue with their wedding planning, I had the honor of being able to take Jenn + Nate’s engagement session photos. It was humble and flattering to do so, especially since one of my favorite things is to take and create imagery for friends of mine. Even if my couples are complete strangers to begin with, they become friends shortly after because something about capturing them helps me get to know all the couples I photograph much better on a deeper level. Photographing and creating their imagery helps me learn how and why they fell in love and why they’re in love, brings out the beauty in who they are in and within their relationship, and shares their story to the rest of the world.
I’m overly ecstatic for both Jenn and Nate – they are a couple I can look up to, admire, and hope only the best for. I can’t wait to help capture their wedding for Scott Robert Lim!!
