Boston in a nutshell… was GREAT. Great people, beautiful architecture and scenery, and wonderful food. I went to Boston for three reasons:
1. To visit my dearest friend who is getting her PhD at MIT, Nadia
2. To venture through a new city I’ve never been to
3. To meet new friends, network, and add more imagery to my portfolio.
I’m definitely happy to say, all three goals for my trip were accomplished and more.
Here’s a summary of my trip and a little preview of each of my shoots. I’ll be posting more about each and every shoot soon!
I arrived Tuesday morning at 6am after a red eye flight and was greeted by Nadia. After sleeping for a few more hours, I ventured around MIT with my first portrait session with Susan, Kevin, and baby Felicity. They showed me the MIT dome in Kilian Court and we had a nice sunset view on the Charles River. Baby Felicity is so cute!
After my shoot, we had dinner that night at Legal’s Seafood and I got to meet Max, Nadia’s boyfriend of 4+ years.
Wednesday morning, it started to rain in Boston. We did an engagement session for one of Nadia’s friends, Sarah and Matt. These two are such a cute couple and belong together so well. Matt designed a ring for Sarah before he proposed to her. During the shoot, we wouldn’t let the rain stop us – Nadia was great and she held an umbrella over me and my strobes while I took photos of the two.
Later Wednesday evening, I met with Mary and Mike, soon to have a baby girl! We met at the Boston Public Library where we spent a few hours perusing the beautiful place.
Thursday was my resting day for the entire trip. I went to venture out around town, and I met with my old coworker, Gabe Domingo, who often travels for work as a consultant at Advent Software. We had a delicious time at Atlantic fish. Yum to Maine Lobster.
Friday, Nadia and I went out and explored Boston. We went through the park and then perused around the neighborhood to capture some of her beautiful ballet shots.
Shortly after on Friday, I met Jenna and Andrej, the super cute couple from Ottowa, Canada. They were both from there, and met and fell in love when they started attending MIT. We started at the beautiful Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, and then headed to the Institute of Contemporary Art.
On Saturday, Nadia, Max, and I headed to the Old North Bridge in Concord, MA. This beautiful historic monument was where the first American Victory was in the Revolutionary War, April 19, 1775. I had a blast on Saturday, it was so much fun. Both of these couples are so great to be around.
Nadia + Max:
On Sunday, I spent time with Nadia’s dance friend, Hannah, and her husband Kyle. (more images from them to come later!)
Monday was a little jam packed… so in the morning, I met with Laura and Ilan. Very sweet couple. They met at MIT and went jogging on their first date. It’s been many many years to where they are today.
In the afternoon, I met with Christy and Jamie. They’re so cute. Jamie asked me what my most exciting venture was in Boston by far. I replied, well, meeting new people + seeing new things was pretty cool. We were going to walk over to Newbury street… until Jamie asked me if I’ve ever been sailing. No, I haven’t, but every day I’ve seen tons of sailboats on the Charles River, I thought it was cool. Spontaneously, Jamie asked if I wanted to go sailing – YES!! So Jamie and Christy took me sailing and we captured some great imagery here and around MIT. Honestly after this, this is the most exciting thing I’ve done for my entire trip. 🙂
And in the evening, I met with the ladies to shoot their wonderful boat creations! More to come on this venture 🙂
On Tuesday, I helped out FormLabs with their accessories. Form Labs is a company creating an affordable solution for 3D printers. (the products are pretty cool btw)
And then, Wednesday, I had lunch with Nadia and Max at Flour, and then took a cab to the airport to head home. It was really sad and bittersweet.
I had such a great time with one of my best, most wonderful friends since two – Nadia. Nadia is the most friendly, sweet, genuine, and wonderful people that I’m so happy to have a part of my life. We have so many stories to tell, and many more to create for our futures. We’ve spent the most time together this week, than in the past few years with both of us (er…just her) away for school. I love this girl so much, she’s definitely like a sister to me. Without her (and her friend Lisa), I wouldn’t have met all these wonderful couples and families, and captured them all – MANY MANY THANK YOUs!!!
