I just came back from Boston (which I will blog more about soon!) and I realized that I am spoiled by having a car, and lazy by not going to the gym to exercise. When going places, getting from point A to point B is easy – I just hop into the car, drive, leave, drive back home. But how much exercise do I actually do? Maybe the occasional extra long walk from a far parking spot (to avoid getting scratches and dings on my car), or the head bobbing to some good jams in the car.
Whenever traveling for photography, I always come home a little bit more tone. Why? It’s the walking, squatting, getting on the floor, carrying my camera gear, and eating more healthy. In Hong Kong, I came back a few pounds leaner – it’s hot, and I walk (and sometimes run from MTR to MTR). In Boston, I walked everywhere (with the exception of taking the T once or twice), for at least for 20 minutes a day and I got used to it. I walked across the Harvard bridge multiple times (sometimes twice in a day!) to travel from Cambridge to Boston and it got easy. Half the time I was carrying my gear, adding weight. Coming home back to the Bay Area finally made me realize that I AM LAZY and I need to do something about it.
One of the biggest problems America has is Obesity. According to CDC, in 2010, 24% of Californians are obese. Bad diseases like diabetes come into your life and never leave.
So I just got back from the gym, feeling refreshed. March was the last time I set foot in a 24hr Fitness – oops! Since I have the luxury to drive everywhere, I might as well put an hour or more aside a day to exercise – or just do something. If I’m not out shooting, I’m usually sitting at home at the desk editing. Cutting out the bad foods is good too – cooking more at home has been a growing hobby for me. So when I’m out shooting your wedding, hopefully I’ll feel much better and won’t be as tired by the end of the night!
I hope reading about my laziness will help motivate you to exercise and eat healthy too. As my dear friend Nadia puts it, “I’m usually so lazy to go exercise, but once you do it for even an half hour, you feel so good about yourself afterwards.”
